Notes & Conditions

The attention of applicants is drawn to the following conditions. When you have read them, click here to access the Grants Application form which you can complete online then print out and mail.

Conditions

That the repairs are carried out under the supervision of an Architect or Chartered Surveyor whose Specification is accepted in advance of the work starting, either by English Heritage, when Joint Scheme grants (English Heritage plus Lottery) are involved, or otherwise by the Trust's architectural advisers. Grants are conditional on the work being executed strictly in accordance with the Specification submitted and accepted. Any deviation without prior agreement renders a grant liable to forfeiture.

Work must not start until the result of your application is notified to you.

That the Church/Chapel is adequately insured.

Notes

For the guidance of applicants:

Your application will be considered in the light of the information you give. Please type (if possible) or write clearly, concise replies to all the questions in the spaces provided. Do not refer to other documents or correspondence in your answers.

Please give as clear a statement as possible of the amount needed to carry out the phase of repairs for which help is sought. If an extensive programme of work is planned, it may be best to divide it into phases, applying now only for the phase which it is hoped to carry out within the immediate future. The Trust will consider further help after three years have elapsed from the offer of a grant. If a grant, or a loan, is not accepted within three months, and taken up within two years of its being offered, the offer will automatically lapse.

Please make sure that at least two up-to-date general photographs of the church are enclosed or sent electronically. One exterior and one interior view is the minimum required, but photographs showing details of the repairs needed are also helpful. These will not be returned as they are likely to be displayed in our on-going exhibition of grant-aided work. We may also ask you for photographs after completion of the work.

The money for these grants comes mainly from the Sponsored Ride & Stride held annually on the second Saturday of September, and we would hope that your church members join in this by ensuring that your church is open and welcoming, and by sponsoring riders.
