Lucy Rylatt
St Peter and St Paul Church, Wymering, has always supported the Historic Churches Trust Annual Sponsored Bike Ride and Walk that takes place each 2nd Saturday in September. This year Lucy Rylatt and her two sons, Sam and Jacob took part on September 9th to raise money for the Trust and the church. This is a remarkable intention for since she was 18 months old, Lucy has undergone 35 hip operations, the latest just 3 months ago. Having had the ‘all clear’ from her physiotherapist she walked with the help of crutches from St Peter and St Paul’s to three neighbouring churches - St Michael and All Angels Paulsgrove, The Resurrection Farlington and St Phillip’s, Cosham - a distance of about 5 miles. Her 2 sons, Sam aged 6 and Jacob, 2 accompanied her on a scooter and trike and Lucy’s wheelchair was close at hand for when the going got tough.
The Cheriton contingent
Cheriton mustered a number of participants - 28 riders and walkers made up of 18 adults and 10 children. The contingent raised about £1500. Paul Raworth Cheriton PCC Treasurer, and David and Sally Cradduck visited 29 churches plus 3 not on the list.
Footnote on the Ride and Stride
People all over the country cycled for the Historic Churches Trust on September 9th. Annually, over £1,000,000 is raised in that one day and in 2005 our own Hampshire and the Islands Historic Churches Trust raised nearly £45,000,000. Half of this money is returned to the church chosen by each person who takes part, and the remainder is distributed by the Trust in grants and interest-free loans towards repair and restoration of historic churches. The full amount raised in 2007 will be published on this page when the final tally is available
